PWC, an international business consulting service provider, predicts, “Animation, gaming and VFX industry will continue to maintain its growth pace and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 21.4% to INR 82.6 billion in 2015 from its current size of INR 31.3 billion.”

Citing the factors for such prospects of the industry, FICCI-KPMG Report says,” animation in India is currently riding on two key factors – a large base of highly skilled labour, and low cost of production…Technical expertise, robust telecom infrastructure, English speaking graphic designers and relatively low cost of operations are the biggest advantage for Indian companies.” Some elements of production for blockbuster films like Avatar, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Spiderman 3 have taken place in India during the last few years.” (Click here to read the complete report.)

Educational Qualifications

For a diploma and for a bachelor degree in animation one needs to have passed 12th standard from any recognized board with minimum of 45% marks. For postgraduate program one should have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline preferably arts. One should have a basic knowledge of handling computers.

Some of the institutes like Industrial Design Center (IDC), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Design (NID) have a strict eligibility criterion-only graduate of architecture, technology and engineering, fine arts can apply for this course.

Animation  is a career where one can literally ‘draw’ ones salary. The institutes help you find right placements in the industry. Once you complete the in-house training in some leading animation production studios,  as  a junior animator you can start earning between Rs.12000 to Rs.14000. After having 3to 5 years of experience, you can earn Rs.25000 to Rs.35000 as a senior animator.

But being a creative domain, animation rewards those who have good expertise in animation with proven credentials, and professionals with rich and varied portfolio can even command anything between Rs.50000 to Rs.60000. And,  you can even seal a six-figure salary in a creatively fulfilling industry.
